Time for me to annoy you guys in another way
I’ve been reading the threads bout making your own juice and I was wondering if the boiling the tobacco thing works with menthols? My dad is a mad menthol addict and refuses to smoke anything else. Everything I’ve seen so far suggests that menthol e-cigs aren’t really the same. Would using the boiling method TB talks about work with menthol? Like enough to please the rabid menthol-aholic I call dad? LOL really want to convert him to e-smoking. He’s been smoking like 30 years now it’s got to be doing damage by now and much as we fight I’d really hate for him to kick over (besides if he keels over from smokin then I’d have reason to feel guilty for not listening when he told me not to haha)|||I’m sorry to say I haven’t tried menthol. But early on, in researching how to do this, I read NOT to boil the tobacco. So I never do that. I simmer it. Big difference here. Never bring your mixture to a boil. Remember we’re after extracting flavor, not cooking the tobacco.
I’m pretty sure you won’t get a menthol "hit" with cooked liquid from menthol-flavored tobacco. Menthol is an addictive not found in tobacco and will likely evaporate away in the cooking process. Frankly, I’ve never liked any menthol smoke, so I haven’t tried to duplicate it with home brew. If I were going to try, I’d choose an extract to add to the final liquid.
I also should add that e-cigs aren’t magic for everyone when it comes to quitting tobacco cigarettes. Many people will still need a strong desire to quit in order to stay away from real cigs. I know I still struggle with wanting a real cig after 13 months. I’m getting nicotine — but something really important is missing. E-smoking is only a partial answer, as is everything else used as a quitting aid.|||Its worth a try.. I just know he wont even try anything unless its menthol.. he did real good on the gum thing a few years back but decided he didnt like the taste of em so opted to go back to smoking. I think if i could produce a satisfactory menthol for him then he’d probably convert for the shear fact that he doesn’t like having to go outside to smoke (we cant smoke in our home) I guess I’ll just have to experiment with it when my E-cig gets here.. from what I’ve read i know I should avoid oils because they can mess up the att though im not sure exactally how or why i dont care to test it to figure it out since people seem to agree oil = no no … if anyone has any advise id be happy to hear it otherwise i suppose ill just play chemist once I get my ecig|||I think Bickford has two peppermint flavors; one with oil, and one with PG…|||I tried the peppermint extract from Bickford, undiluted, and it was just OK. The only thing I’ve found close to that cool menthol kick is E-Puffer mint cartridges. They also sell e-liquid, but they are kind of expensive. Check them out though, it might be worth it.|||You can get pure menthol crystals quite easily and cheap. 20 grams of menthol crystals is enough for more than 4 liters of e-juice assuming recipe 2 of E-cigarette - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . Getting that concentration with reasonable accuracy without having to make loads of liquid is the tricky part. I would probably dilute some menthol to whatever it is solulable to. Make sure it actually dilutes to whatever liquid you might be using or you will get uneven distribution of menthol in your liquid. That is likely result in a nasty surprice. Menthol isn’t very toxic but I would assume that surprice to include vomiting etc. Get that mixture to about 2-5% and add small amounts to e-liquid using a "precission" pipette such as mentioned in DIY tobacco& nicotine flavor… without tobacco . Menthol isn’t very soluble in water. You would probably have to use alcohol. Be sure to wear eye protection and wash gloves etc. that might of made contact with concentrated menthol(liquid or not).
I’m not very keen on menthol but might try it later.|||One of my past posts got me thinking about this. The Camel Crush cigarettes have a small capsule in them that when crushed it releases the menthol liquid into the filter. It then is vaporized buy the passing smoke through the filter. Hmmm….? I wonder if anyone can narrow down that recipe because it’s that same concept but already 100% working and in the right dose.||| |||Good to know because i would of been the next person with that bad experience.
|||lol yea I’m wishing someone else would have done it before me. I think ill cringe about that experience for years.
I have thought about putting some cotton in the back end of the mouthpiece where there’s that empty space and crushing the little bead in that.. sort of the same effect as how it works in the camel crush itself. I’d think that would work but I only had the one bead
to play with as I bummed it off someone I was showing my ecig to as a sort of spur of the moment idea
