Anyone interested in a review pool? other ideas in here too

Posted in E-Cigarette Reviews by penstyle on the October 30th, 2008

A few of us were talking and the idea of a pool came up.

We have enough members that a small contribution from many would allow honest reviews of the new products as they come out.

Anyone interested in this concept? reviews would be documented. Items would be tested with original carts as well as cheaper liquid(if possible) to determine reliability.

Just a thought. Hopefully this is the correct forum to put this in.

-Dusty-|||Don’t companies usually offer free samples to professional reviewers. We should assign a member as "our" professional reviewer and solicit the companies to participate thru submission of a free sample. An additional incentive for them could be offerring them free advertisements thru publications of our positive reviews on YouTube and major Electronic websites.

Secondly, I’m not understanding the math. Twenty people would have to donate $5 for a $100 item. And we all know $100 is a low estimate for the better makers. I’m not sure you would get twenty that easily.

I’d be willing to donate depending on what the final plans look like. However, I wouldn’t be a reviewer cause I couldn’t do videos - lol.

Just some ideas IMHO|||same post as in other topic.

when i say a few, i don’t mean 1 or 2. if 10% donated $5 that would be $150. that would cover most of the cost for almost any unit. problem is that with each new unit, there would be a new cost. I think it was good in theory, but probably not easy to do with the economics standpoint.

I was just thinking about the professional reviewer idea. I can donate my camera, writing skills, and e-cig destroying capabilities to the cause. All we would need is the endorsement of this forum for the "professional" or official reviewer position. User reviews would still be encouraged, but the pro guy would do an in-depth and methodical . First impressions, longevity, possibly even dissection for dead or unusual units.(like the G300 cart)

Maybe that is the better way to go.

-Dusty-|||Drats, already purchased almost every brand out there… i’m in for like $500 on these things!

Maybe we could just setup a logical poll threads for each brand/model. And we could all try to agree on the most important aspects of ecigs. For example a single poll thread would look like:

(photo)
Vapor volume (8)
Cartridge longevity (3)
Build quality (6)
Overall Quality (6)
Life (3)
Looks (9)
——————–
TOTAL (35)

Then everyone could just submit their scores based on their own experience, and the lead post would show the aggregate average. Of course, everyone could leave their own subjective opinions on them.

Might be a bit advanced for PHPBB, but this would be the ideal method. All we have to do is agree on the most important traits…|||i was kind of thinking that if they survive for someone like me, then they should survive for a much less demanding user. I haven’t found a single one that’ll last more than 1 or 2 weeks with me.

So yeah… not sure what to really do, but i still like the official reviewer idea.|||I’ve been thinking about doing comparative reviews, since I’ve gotten so many of them to compare. The thing is, how to rate these things objectively? Take smoke production; how do you rate the smoke volume in an objective manner that can be applied evenly across the board. I’d like to go all Consumer Reports on them, and have some kind of machine that draws in a regulated amount of air, and measures the amount of vapor in it. But that’s not realistic. So maybe something simpler, like a background with some sort of scale, which the reviewer can blow across, taking a pic of the cloud of vapor, and measuring the volume visually. Mythbusters style. Same with /cartridge life. I’d like a robot that could keep puffing at regular intervals until the or cartridge is completely spent. Not having that, the reviewer would have to be disciplined and use the subject steadily, regularly, and exclusively.

Looking back at my earlier reviews, I see I was overly enthusiastic about some of these. Having truly objective stats to compare between them would help.|||all of it is subjective, but so are most reviews when you look at it. The goal is that the reviewer needs to be objective.

Also where can help. granted no scale, but a general impression. Trust me, you would be able to see a major difference between all of my pieces right now.

-Dusty-||| ||| probably won’t go for a free sample, but you never know. They have been getting plenty of positive hype.

I’m really curious about all of the greencig models. And anything else that is new or generally unheard of. is a good example. we all know about them, but don’t really have any kind of reviews or info about the products.

Anyone have any ideas about the proper way to approach some of these companies?

-Dusty-|||We’re in an era where the consumer’s voice can be found on the Internet and actually seems to have more weight than the opinions of many professionals. There are arguments to be made favoring either approach.

There’s a site I visit at least once a week, heavily trafficked by pipe smokers. To me, it has a setup we could use for e-smoking and materials. Take a look at it and imagine what we could ask of an e-cig, in the same way each reviewer addresses a particular tobacco. Since I’m puffing Frog Morton tonight, here’s the link (scan down the reviews to see how fast one item can build up opinion): http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend_…LPHA=F&TID=768

Neat, huh?
